SNUBBER capacitors are used in applications where high pulse loadings and high frequencies are presented. Their purpose is to eliminate voltage spikes which are caused by semiconductors or other devices.

Capacitors for AC filtering (general purpose capacitors) - In power electronic equipment, alternating voltages with a fundamental frequency ranging from 50 Hz to 500 Hz (sometimes up to 5 kHz) are present, containing various transient oscillations generated by the switching of diodes and thyristors. As a result, capacitors are exposed to steep voltage rises and drops, leading to high current peaks.
